Prior to applying the decorative chips, keep windows closed and ceiling fans off. Avoid air movement or breezes while applying the adhesive base coat. In addition, the wetting agent allows the surface to stay wet longer allowing the chips to better adhere to the adhesive base coat.

Yes. The existing coating will need to be sanded thoroughly with a diamond embedded sanding tool. Then follow normal application process.

Apply a heavy, even coating of the adhesive base coat to allow the decorative chips to adhere consistently. Work quickly and do not allow the adhesive base coat to dry.

Higher humidity will cause the adhesive base coat to dry more slowly. This will allow more time to apply the decorative chips onto the wet adhesive base coat. Ideal conditions are 50% relative humidity and 70° F. Do not apply the adhesive base coat at relative humidity levels below 30% or above 70% and when the dew point is under 5° F. If humidity is low, use a humidifier to increase moisture levels in the room.

Cover any unused, unmixed products tightly for storage. Any mixed topcoat material will harden and cannot be reused. Cover mixed topcoat, allow it to harden in the container, and discard according to local regulations. The adhesive base coat tools such as paint brushes and paint rollers can be cleaned with water.

Mask the sink and adjacent areas with painter tape. Press in the edge of the painter tape to ensure the coating will not bleed through. Make sure you cover the sink drain to keep decorative chips from falling in.

Rust-Oleum Countertop Transformations® will coat and cover any burns and small scratches in the existing countertop. Cracks, chips, deeper cuts, or dents can be repaired by filling them with a 2-part epoxy putty. When the epoxy putty dries, sand the area until it is even with the surrounding surface. Once repairs have been made, follow the normal application.

To clean the surface, use a damp cloth or sponge and a mild soap or detergent. The easiest way to avoid stains is to not let spills sit on the surface. All countertop surfaces should be wiped clean regularly. For dark scuffmarks or crayon, try Mr. Clean® MagicEraser®.

With normal use and proper care, your refinished surfaces will last for years.
