More Efficient Filters Means Better HVAC Efficiency
High-performing air conditioner and furnace filters keep your heating and cooling system clean and working efficiently and can extend the life of your HVAC unit. The higher the MERV rating, the more efficient the air filter is at removing particulates from the air. MERV 8 air filters are disposable, made from synthetic fiber, and should be changed about every three months.

What is MERV?
MERV is short for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) designed the MERV scale to rate the effectiveness of air filters.
MERV Ratings
Higher MERV ratings mean healthier breathing environments. The higher the MERV number, the more airborne particulates are being filtered, such as dust, mold spores, tobacco smoke, pet dander, pollen, and more.
MERV ratings usually fall between MERV 3 and MERV 13. MERV 8-13 are recommended for residential settings. MERV 13-16 are used in hospital and surgery settings.
Changing Filters
Your HVAC air filters should be changed every 30-90 days, depending on filter type. Clogged filters can restrict airflow, causing your HVAC system to work harder and more inefficiently, which can drive up costs and may even cause system damage. Having a maintenance log for your air filter can help you keep track of the filter replacement schedule.
